African diplomats to discuss African Growth and Opportunity Act at July 28 Newsmaker

A group of African diplomats will discuss the impact on African countries of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), part of the U.S. Trade and Development Act, at a National Press Club Newsmakers news conference on Tuesday, July 28 at 1 p.m. in the Zenger Room.

Appearing will be Ambassadors Michael Moussa-Adamo of Gabon, Eliachim Molapi Sebatane of Lesotho – co-chairmen of the AGOA Ambassadors Group – as well as Mninwa Mahlangu of South Africa and Tarek Ben Youssef, the Charge d’Affaires of the 54-nation African Union delegation to the U.S.

AGOA offers incentives for African countries to open their economies and build free markets. It also authorizes a new trade and investment policy for Africa, renews the generalized system of preferences and reauthorizes the trade adjustment assistance programs.

Like all Newsmakers events, this news conference is open to credentialed media and NPC members, free of charge. No advance registration is required.
