William R. Brody, president of The Johns Hopkins University, addressing the link between research and medical care, speaking at a National Press Club Luncheon on Friday, Sept. 7. Brody's unique back-ground links technology, medical devices and leadership of a research university with an outstanding hospital and medical school. Following a Ph.D. in electrical engineering at Stanford University he did post-graduate training in cardiovascular surgery and radiology at Stanford, the National Institutes of Health and the University of California, San Francisco. He was professor of radiology and electrical engineering at Stanford from 1977 to 1986. Brody became the 13th president of Hopkins in 1996.
