
Summer 2012 is a hot one and the Press Club is heating up with great events.
I hope you have received your member survey. This is your chance to give your opinions on what the Club is and is not doing well. We need your thoughts to make the next five years at the club the best we can make them. On Tuesday, July 24 please join us for the annual NPC Journalism Awards Dinner. You will find this to be an inspiring evening that celebrates the best in journalism. Among the award winners will be: James Risen of the New York Times; the late Anthony Shadid, Marie Colvin and Remi Ochlik who died in Syria in February; The team from the Kalb Report; and Brian Lamb of C-Span. Even though it is summer our luncheon series is going strong. On Friday, July 20th Dr. Delos Cosgrove, President and CEO of the Cleveland Clinic will discuss healthcare policy.
July 24th Judy Woodruff and Gwen Ifill will discuss the complex issues in play in the presidential election campaign.
August 28th General James Amos, Commandant of the US Marine Corps will discuss the role of the Marines as America’s crisis response force.
Press Club member Tom Young, author of popular military novels, will discuss his latest thriller, “The Renegades,”at a National Press Club Book Rap at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24. The event is free for Club members, $5 for guests and nonmembers. Reservations are required at opus@press.org.
