The National Press Club's Young Members and International Correspondents Committees will host a screening of the film Whiskey Tango Foxtrot on Friday, July 29, followed by a panel discussion featuring journalist and author Kim Barker, whose real life experiences depicted in her book, "The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan," inspired the making of the film.

Showtime for Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is at 6:15 p.m. in the Holeman Lounge of the National Press Club. The panel discussion will take place directly after the screening, followed by a brief question and answer session from the audience. Tickets are $10 for members and $15 for non-members.

Ms. Barker will also be available to sign copies of her book "The Taliban Shuffle." Books will be available for purchase online at the same time as tickets or at the event. No outside books are permitted. Proceeds from all book sales benefit the nonprofit National Press Club Journalism Institute.

About Kim Barker:

Kim Barker was the South Asia bureau chief for The Chicago Tribune from 2004 to 2009, based in New Delhi and Islamabad. Her book about those years, “The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan,” a dark comedic take on her time in South Asia, was published by Doubleday. The movie version, "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot," was released in March 2016, starring Tina Fey, Martin Freeman, Alfred Molina, Margot Robbie and Billy Bob Thornton. Barker is now a metro reporter at The New York Times, specializing in investigative reporting and narrative writing. Before joining The Times in mid-2014, Ms. Barker was an investigative reporter at ProPublica, writing mainly about campaign finance and the fallout from the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision.
