APS Physics to Look at Renewable Energy, Electricity Grid at Newsmaker
Jim Misewich, Associate Director for Basic Energy Sciences at Brookhaven National Laboratory and Kathryn Clay, Vice President of Research and Technology Policy for the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, will speak at a National Press Club Newsmaker press conference to release a new report, Integrating Renewable Electricity on the Grid, at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 16th, in the 4th Estate Room at the National Press Building, 529 14th St., N.W., Washington, DC.
The report, sponsored by the American Physical Society (APS), will outline recommendations to overcome technological challenges facing the grid. With 30 states operating under renewable energy standards (RES), federal policymakers have developed proposals to establish a national RES. But the standard will remain unmet unless technical hurdles are overcome. The APS report identifies barriers and the steps policymakers must take to deal with them.
