OWL to Release Mother’s Day Report, Honor Women Encore Entrepreneurs
OWL’s annual Mother's Day reports and briefings draw national attention to an issue key to women 40+. This year’s focus is the growing trend of women encore entrepreneurs.
The report, "Our Women Mean Business: Encore Careers After 40," will be released May 6 in the First Amendment Lounge at 2:30 p.m.
Taking part in the briefing will be many of OWL’s first-ever Hall of Notables:
Vernice "FlyGirl" Armour, the first African American female combat pilot
Carol Gardner, founder of Zelda Wisdom, Inc.
Svetlana Kim, entrepreneur and best-selling author
Kay Koplovitz, Founder of USA Network
Patricia Lizarraga, managing partner of Hypatia Capital Group
Nell Merlino, Chair, Personal Data Independence Trust
Jeanne Sullivan, a founding principal of StarVest
Gail Sheehy, award winning author
Terrie M. Williams, an inspirational speaker and writer
Teresa Younger, CEO of Ms. Foundation
Latifa Lyles, Director of the Women’s Bureau at the Department of Labor, will make the opening remarks. Lisa Stark, Al Jazeera America correspondent, formerly with ABC News, will moderate.
The briefing will include details about OWL’s upcoming campaign to increase the venture capital funds going to women from 7% to 20% by 2020. While other sources of capital are important in funding women-led enterprises, Forbes estimates that the VC market is close to $30 billion a year.
