Wendy Davis, the Democratic state senator from Texas who captured the attention of the nation when she filibustered a Republican-led abortion bill, will speak at a National Press Club luncheon August 5.
Davis’s 13-hour filibuster made her a national figure and she has been mentioned as a gubernatorial candidate in Texas. A graduate of Harvard Law, Davis was a single mother at 19 and worked two jobs to finance her education culminating in her degree from Harvard. She was the first in her family to receive a college degree.
Davis will speak of the political climate in Texas and Washington and her future plans.
The luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. Remarks will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $21 for Club members and one guest. Tickets are $35 for non-members.
