NRB to Announce New Internet Freedom Initiative, Host Panel on Internet Censorship
Sen. Ted Cruz, former FCC Commissioner McDowell, Prager U Executive, Ralph Reed to Speak
WASHINGTON (NRB) – National Religious Broadcasters will announce a new internet freedom initiative on Thursday, December 7, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The event will feature an address by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and a panel, “Internet Freedom: Rights and Responsibilities,” with leading voices on the subject, including Craig Strazzeri with PragerU, a victim of internet censorship; former FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell; and evangelical leader Ralph Reed.
“National Religious Broadcasters was founded nearly 75 years ago in response to corporate censorship of evangelical radio ministries,” said NRB President & CEO Dr. Jerry A. Johnson. “Today, an alarming censorship of Christian and politically conservative viewpoints on the internet is growing. Major players in Silicon Valley with enormous influence over what is seen on the internet and on social media platforms are suppressing viewpoints that run counter to their preferred ideologies.
“In response to this new threat of censorship of ideas, NRB is launching a new initiative to bring greater attention to these threats, challenge Silicon Valley to uniformly practice its professed commitment to free speech, and explore possible public policy options that may exist to address the loss of internet freedom,” Johnson added.
