Details: An Evening with "Morning Joe," 6:30 pm June 18 in the Ballroom In his 2004 book "Rome Wasn't Burnt in a Day," conservative political commentator Joe Scarborough predicted the collapse of the Republican majority and the economic chaos that has shaken us all. Now, he issues a bold challenge to the GOP and the movement it is supposed to champion: reform or die. Scarborough joins us to discuss his new book, "The Last Best Hope: Restoring Conservatism and America's Promise" ($26). Scarborough indicts former President Bush and the Republican Party for the damage their policies have caused America's economy and foreign policy, while charging that the response of President Obama and the Democrats are only making matters worse. The solution, he argues, is a true conservative approach to taxes, the environment and the state's use of power, drawing upon the strength of the conservative movement's history. Scarborough was elected to Congress in 1994, representing Florida's 1st Congressional District, and was re-elected three times by overwhelming margins. He hosted MSNBC's opinion/analysis show Scarborough Country from 2003 through 2007. He now hosts MSNBC's weekday morning talk show, Morning Joe. This event is open to the public and free of charge, however, reservations are required. RSVP at opus@press.org or phone 202-662-7523. As a fundraiser for the Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library, no outside books will be permitted. Scarborough's book will be sold, and he will sign copies.
